SDR Software – a list

sdr-waterfall

On the basis of the queries I found in the log of this website I realized that many people are looking for SDR-Software. Thereupon I have created a table with Google Docs. In this table I inserted SDR-Software that I know of.

SDR-Radio – operating remote and your own SDR-receiver

sdr-software

Most likely every radio operator already knows the term SDR (Software Defined Radio) and many of them got to know this technology by the meanwhile very popular project PA3FWM ( -> read more about WebSDR) He placed the frontend, that is the operator interface, of the SDR-receiver in the internet. The chief attraction is: the receiver can be operated by many users at the same time and every user can choose his own mode and frequency and listen to it. Several people, no matter where they are, operate the same piece of hardware.

Contest Software – which one is the best software for a contest? Survey included!

Mein Freund Jürgen, DL7UVO beim WAG-ContestWell, I have to admit  the headline is a bit lurid. Because one thing is for sure: There is and there will never be such a thing like THE best contest software, because everybody has different ideas when it comes to function and handling of such a software. When making a decision to use a contest software the first thing that is important is the handling and its functions, for instance the diverse DX-Cluster-connections (AX.25, Telnet etc.) or the support of various CAT-interfaces or the controlling of rotators. Operators have very different ideas concerning all these functions. People who only take part in contests for a few hours to give some points or refresh their DX-stats, probably don’t demand a great deal of such a software. But it is different, where people are looking for a solution that is more than just optimum – where people aim for the perfect interaction of operator, logging and station equipment.

Hamradio Apps for iPhone – Part 1

In another article in this blog (click here to read) you can read that I will buy the iPhone 4. And because I am very curious for the amateur radio Apps for the iPhone, I already took a look about.

Unfortunately I could not try the Apps so far so I cannot write down the experiences I have made. But one thing is for sure: there already are a lot of ham radio Apps so far.
In this list you will find a short description of the Apps. The small button “App Store” will lead you to the Store of Apple. There you will find some screenshots of the apps as well as further and more detailed descriptions.

Hamsphere/QSOnet – virtual ham radio is bullshit

Actually it is not only inappropriate to mention the software Hamsphere in this category, but also nonsense. But I don’t want to create a new category. This software has nothing to do with ham radio, except the fact that the creator has a call sign and that you, for whatever reason, need a ham radio-call sign to be able to use the software. And this too is nonsense, because the call signs aren’t verified (why should they?) and you can type in everything you want when logging in.

Hamsphere is nothing else but an application comparable to Skype, ICQ, MSN or some other VOIP-messenger. They only import additional noise and QRM-like interferences. Instead of lists or chat-channels they choose a frequency-tuning button.
